Six years after the violent death of her
husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her
'out of control' 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible
to love. Samuel's dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill
them both. When a disturbing storybook called 'The Babadook turns up at their
house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he's been dreaming
about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia,
genuinely frightened by her son's behavior, is forced to medicate him. But
when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it
slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.
Actually, I like it when I had known the
symbolism of the movie from my classmates. Basically, the movie symbolizes our
fear in real life towards any kind of things even a tiny one just like we fear
of cockroach and caterpillar. The movie shows how we overcome our fear, we
cannot make it disappear but what we can do, handle it wisely. No matter where
we are going, fear always follow us. Even, it is so useless to run from fear,
what should we do is control and handle it. It will become worse as we didn’t try
manage it. For instance, in the movie, Amelia overcomes her fear with keep
reminding her love towards her only son and soon happiness can be experienced
for both of them.
One lesson I learned from the movie is to keep
faithful to our loved one. Samuel, Amelia’s son is obedient. He will follow all
her mum instructions as he knows her mum
is the best ever. He will not try to
make her mum sad and protect no matter harm comes over to his mum. He does it
as he truly loves her mum and nothing can change it. Maybe , it sounds ridiculous on what he does for her mum, but then that’s the best
for her. Indeed, he still not leaves her mum alone goes through the challenging
circumstance. He keeps on trying to make her mum realized from fraud of the
devil.
In the nutshell, watch the movie and we
can find out many unpredictable things. Have fun!
